Kara is a printmaker and illustrator, primarily interested in animals and their interactions with their environments, the humans that surround them and one another. “I love how animals seem to have great characters, and seem very telling in their actions and looks. I am interested in myths and histories that surround many creatures.”
Kara works mainly with collagraphs or watercolour and ink, each piece the result of painstaking and meticulous process, producing atmospheric, sometimes whimsical, pieces that explore the stories animals might tell of their interactions with the human world. ''As an artist I am primarily interested in animals and their interactions with their environments, the humans that surround them and one another. I love how animals seem to have great characters, and seem very telling in their actions and looks. I am interested in myths and histories that surround many creatures, of course these are always told from a human perspective, but I often wonder what a different story the animals themselves would tell.'' ''As a printmaker and illustrator, I primarily work with collagraphs as a printmaker or with watercolour and ink as an illustrator. I find the process of collagraph –which involved printing from a collage, can produce many atmospheric prints and I also like being able to cut out and shape each plate as I wish.'' ''With illustration the process is much more straightforward; however I can still spend hours getting the initial drawing just right!'' |
